Yesterday, I wrote a piece about how the progressive socialist left “cherry-picks” tragedies. To demonstrate, below you will find a brief analysis of what happened — again — in Chicago this weekend.
We all grieve for any and all loss of innocent life. Sadly, there are those who only bring attention to the losses of life that fit their purpose, their agenda. And, sadly, most times the loss of life in urban centers, black lives, are the ones ignored . . . unless the loss, such as with Eric Garner, Michael Brown, or Trayvon Martin, can benefit a particular narrative.
As reported by the Chicago Tribune:
“Chicago’s most violent weekend this year began Friday evening when a 5-year-old boy was shot in the leg while sitting in a car as adults around him argued. It peaked early Sunday morning when 17 people were shot in two hours in a two-mile area on the West Side, accounting for about a third of those shot over the weekend. Three women and four men were wounded in Douglas Park by someone in a passing black Camaro; two women were shot an hour later on the other side of the park; eight people were hit about an hour later, blocks away, including a man who died. More than half the victims from the shootings were hit in the arm or leg.
The Chicago Police Department released audio of the last shooting that featured close to a minute of nearly constant gunfire. “Below is the sound that Chicago needs to change its ways on how we handle gun offenders,” tweeted police spokesman Anthony Guglielmi.
The three shootings occurred in the Ogden police district, where the department deployed 50 extra officers on Sunday. “Area saturation teams and organized crime officers flooded Chicago’s west side following several multi-victim shooting incidents,” Guglielmi tweeted. Ambulances flooded Mount Sinai and Stroger hospitals on the West Side.
By Monday morning, 55 people had been shot across the city, seven of them fatally. The victims ranged from 5 to 56 years old, and the shootings stretched from Rogers Park on the North Side to West Pullman on the Far South Side. Nearly all the gun violence happened on the West and South sides.”
No, this does not take away from what happened in El Paso or Dayton, but what happened this weekend in Chicago happens regularly. And it is a tragedy that is playing out in many of our American cities. No, this does not take away from what happened in El Paso or Dayton, but what happened this weekend in Chicago happens regularly. It is easy for leftists to say all we need to do is disarm law-abiding Americans, or ban certain firearms. However, in Chicago and elsewhere, many of these shootings are carried out with handguns, so should they be banned as well? Funny thing, Chicago, Newark, and Baltimore are all in states with the most stringent gun control laws — all under Democrat control — yet criminals seek to find a way. Perhaps we should start enforcing our gun laws as they currently exist . . . what a novel idea.
I have to ask: how do criminal illegal immigrants and gang members get access to firearms? Maybe that should be assessed and rectified before pestering law-abiding citizens, attempting to render them victims.
The folks out in California released a criminal illegal immigrant — deported five times — who shot and killed Kate Steinle. They did not even find him guilty of criminal possession of a firearm.
London banned guns, and now knives are the weapon of choice. Islamic terrorists were using trucks, vans, and anything to run down innocent people. My point is that evil will find a way, a means by which to inflict harm and danger on innocent people.
To all you progressive socialists: why do you ignore Chicago, Baltimore, Newark and other urban centers? The shooter in Dayton was a leftist, same as with the one who shot up the GOP baseball team. That matters not, what matters is that evil exists, along with mentally ill accessing guns. Fix that, and leave We the People, and our Second Amendment constitutional right alone.
